Perak assembly to recite Rukun Negara pledge at start of every meeting

IPOH: Perak State Legislative Assembly meetings will begin with the reciting of the Rukun Negara pledge from this year.

Deputy Speaker Jenny Choy said this marks the first time the pledge will be recited during assembly sittings.

"The pledge will be made during the second sitting on April 16, immediately after the prayer session led by the assembly secretary," she told a press conference here on Tuesday (April 8) ahead of the first meeting of the third year of the 15th state assembly next week.

Also present were new Dewan Negeri secretary Mohd Ikram Ahmad, who will begin duties on Thursday (April 10), and assistant secretary Amir Fadli Mohd Halmi.

The meeting will run for six days from April 15 to 22.

Choy added that the debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address will begin on April 16 and involve 45 members of the assembly, including the government and opposition.

"A total of 45 members will be allowed to debate the motion, comprising 19 government assemblymen, including backbenchers, and 26 opposition assemblymen, including the opposition leader," she said.

She added that the winding-up session by 10 executive council members, according to their respective portfolios, is scheduled for April 21 and 22.

"The Mentri Besar will wrap up on April 22," she said.
