Ayer Kuning polls: KS Bawani to represent PSM

TAPAH: KS Bawani will represent Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) in the Ayer Kuning state legislative seat by-election.

PSM chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj announced this at the party’s operations centre in Ayer Kuning on Tuesday (April 8).

In her speech, Bawani – the PSM secretary-general - thanked the party for giving her a second chance to contest in the constituency.

"This is a huge mandate and a significant moment for us."PSM has PRM, Muda, and Marhaen and activists from farmers and Orang Asli communities in its corner this time," she said following the announcement.

"We can be the alternative voice for the people, who are bored with the current situation and seemingly no solution to issues faced by the people," she added.

Bawani, who is the Perak PSM chairman, stood in the constituency during the 2022 General Election, where she only polled 586 votes.

The by-election will be held on April 26, following the passing of its incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin, on Feb 22.

Nomination is set for April 12, and early voting is on April 22.

Ishsam had won the seat with a 2,213-vote majority in a five-cornered contest involving Barisan, Perikatan, Pakatan, PSM, and Gerakan Tanah Air.
