Putra Heights inferno: Five vans mobilised to transport students to schools

KUALA LUMPUR: Five Rapid KL On-Demand vans have been mobilised to transport 76 students affected by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor, from two temporary relief centres to 19 schools around the Subang Jaya area on Monday (April 7).

Of the total, 42 are primary school pupils and 34 are secondary school students.

Rapid Bus Head of Central Region Khairul Azhar Hamidulah told Bernama this morning that early arrangements were made with the district education office (PPD) and local authorities to ensure a smooth student transportation process.

"Of that number, 60 are morning session students, and 16 are in the afternoon session. However, the actual number this morning may be slightly lower and is expected to increase over time," he said.

This initiative is a collaborative effort of Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE), the Petaling Perdana PPD, the Social Welfare Department, and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.

YIDE general manager Nur Mohd Razali Abdullah stated that this transportation assistance will be provided for two weeks, depending on the needs and current situation.

He said the vans would transport students within a seven-kilometre radius to and from their schools and the relief centres.

"YIDE remains committed to ensuring the welfare of affected students. All forms of assistance will be provided in stages to ensure that every student can continue their schooling comfortably," he said.

Meanwhile, he expressed gratitude for Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's concern for the students' plight.

According to him, the foundation, a Selangor Islamic Religious Council subsidiary, distributed school supplies, including uniforms, bags, shoes, and stationery, to 194 displaced students on Friday (April 4). - Bernama
