Three killed in sewage tank in Lenggong died due to asphyxiation, say cops

IPOH: The three men who were trapped in a sewage tank at a construction site are believed to have died due to asphyxiation.

Gerik OCPD Supt Zulkifli Mahmood said the deceased had experienced shortness of breath while inside the tank that was being built in Kampung Ibol, Lenggong in Gerik on Sunday (April 6) at about 10am.

"Two construction workers, 37 and 29, were brought out of the tank by others but were pronounced dead by medical personnel," he said in a statement.

"A 25-year-old foreign worker, from Indonesia, was pronounced dead while seeking treatment at the Lenggong Health Clinic while another has been sent to the Taiping Hospital and is in critical condition.

"The bodies of the two deceased men have been sent to the Taiping Hospital's forensics unit while the body of the Indonesian victim has been sent to the Gerik Hospital for post- mortem," he added.

It was reported earlier Sunday that three men were killed after being trapped in a sewer shaft.

Supt Zulkifli said there were four other construction workers who also experienced shortness of breath after bringing the deceased out of the tank.

"They are being treated at the Kuala Kangsar Hospital," he said, adding that all those involved were aged between 25 and 55.

"The incident is being investigated under sudden death and is still ongoing," he added.
