IPOH: Three men, including a foreign worker, died after being trapped in a sewer shaft at a construction site in Kampung Ibol, Lenggong, Gerik.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad stated that two of the victims, aged 29 and 37, died at the scene, while the foreign worker from Indonesia died at the hospital.

Sabarodzi reported that the department received a call about seven people trapped in the sewer shaft on Sunday (April 6) at about 10am.

"They were conducting cleaning work in the 2.4m deep sewer shaft.

"Five of them were brought out by members of the public and sent to the nearest clinic," he said in a statement.

"Firemen then went down the shaft to retrieve the two remaining victims," he said.

"Medical personnel confirmed their deaths, and their bodies have been handed over to the police for further action," he added.
