KUALA LUMPUR: The final physical assessment on residences damaged by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, has been completed, says Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad.
He said the assessment team would table the report on Sunday (April 6) evening before it is made public.
He said the assessment took some time as it involved other agencies and also because water was constantly filling up the crater, which had to be drained first.
On Saturday (April 5), Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that as of Friday, 130 of the 235 houses in Taman Putra Harmoni were confirmed safe, and occupants were allowed to return home.
As of Saturday, 509 families had registered as victims of the tragedy.
Those who have not registered are advised to do so by the deadline on Sunday to avoid missing out on aid provided by various parties.
The fire at the gas pipeline at 8.10am on Tuesday (April 1), saw flames as high as 30m and temperatures reaching 1,000°C, which took nearly eight hours to extinguish.
A total of 87 houses were declared as "total losses".
No fatalities were reported. – Bernama
