PETALING JAYA: Five Malaysians were injured in a tour bus accident in western Tokyo on April 5, Wisma Putra confirms.

In a statement on Sunday (April 6), the Foreign Affairs Ministry said all five individuals sustained minor injuries and have since been discharged from hospital and returned to their hotel.

“The Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo has confirmed that five Malaysian nationals were on board the two buses.

“All five sustained minor injuries. After receiving treatment and check-ups at hospitals, they have been sent back to their hotel,” said the ministry.

The Foreign Ministry added that it is closely monitoring the situation through the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo.

The incident occurred at approximately 10.15am near the entrance of the Kobotoke Tunnel on the Chuo Expressway in Hachioji, western Tokyo.

The collision involved two buses carrying a total of 47 passengers, most of whom were foreign nationals.

According to local authorities, the accident took place when one of the buses rear-ended the other while travelling in the same direction.

Both vehicles had departed from JR Tokyo Station and were en route to Lake Kawaguchi in Yamanashi Prefecture.
