Malaysian passengers allegedly involved in Tokyo bus crash

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians are said to be among the passengers of a tour bus that crashed in Tokyo, Japan that left 47 people injured.

The crash on Saturday (April 5) morning occurred when a tour bus rear-ended another on the Chuo Expressway near the Kobotoke Tunnel in Hachioji, Bernama reported.

Wisma Putra has yet to confirm if there are Malaysians involved but according to Hong Kong's Dim Sum Daily, passengers were from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

The news outlet also quoted the bus operator, KKday, as saying that over 10 passengers were sent to hospitals for check-ups, including two from Taiwan and the rest from Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

According to reports, both buses were headed from JR Tokyo Station to Lake Kawaguchi in the Yamanashi prefecture.

Kyodo News reported that most were foreign nationals, but injuries were not life-threatening.

Tokyo police said the buses were in stop-start traffic and the driver of the bus in the rear failed to notice that the front vehicle had braked.

The collision led to the temporary closure of outbound lanes between Hachioji Junction and Sagamiko Interchange, said Central Nippon Expressway Co.
