Woman arrested over alleged gold necklace theft during Raya holidays in Tawau

TAWAU: What was meant to be a festive Raya visit turned into a theft case when a woman allegedly made off with a gold necklace from the home she had just visited.

The incident happened at around 3.45pm on Thursday (April 3) at a residence in Taman Pasadena, Batu 2, Jalan Datuk Chong Thien Vun.

Tawau OCPD Supt Champin Piuh said the 26-year-old suspect was arrested less than 10 hours later, at about 12.45am on Friday (April 4), in a wooden house at Kampung Hidayat, Batu 4, Jalan Apas.

“The victim lodged a police report after realising that his wife’s gold necklace was missing from its storage place shortly after the suspect and her companion left the house following a Raya visit,” he said.

A team from the Tawau Criminal Investigation Department later arrested the woman and recovered the suspected stolen jewellery.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a dwelling, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a possible fine upon conviction.
