Anwar discusses mutual response to US tariffs with Asean leaders

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he had an opportunity to have a discussion with several leaders of Asean countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei and Singapore on Friday (April 4).

In a Facebook post Friday, the Prime Minister said the discussion, held over the telephone, was aimed at sharing views and coordinating a mutual response to the issue of new United States (US) tariffs.

"As the chair of Asean, Malaysia remains committed to fostering consensus among member states and upholding the principles of fairness and equity in all trade negotiations, including in Asean-US dialogue frameworks," he said in the post.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, also said the Asean Economic Ministers' meeting, to be held next week, will continue deliberations on the matter and see the best possible solution for all member countries.
