Police investigating Facebook user for defamatory post against PDRM

BERA: Police here have launched an investigation into a Facebook account owner named “Muhamad Harun” following a defamatory post against the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Bera OCPD Supt Zulkiflee Nazir said the investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He said the investigation began after the account owner posted on the Bera Unite Facebook page on March 29, alleging that members of the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) did not take action against two Chinese individuals riding motorcycles without helmets.

"The post also questioned whether the law is only enforced against the Malay community and claimed that such incidents frequently occur in Triang here," he said.

Supt Zulkiflee said the post is seen as an attempt to tarnish the image of the PDRM, particularly the Bera District Police Headquarters (IPD).

"The public with information related to the account owner 'Muhamad Harun' is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector Muhamad Zulhilmi Ishak, at 014-2250306 or any nearby police station," he said.

On March 30, Zulkiflee issued a statement requesting 'Muhamad Harun' to immediately present himself at the Bera IPD or any nearby police station to provide further information to assist in the investigation regarding the post.
