Putra Heights inferno: No abnormal air quality readings as at noon, says DOE

PETALING JAYA: The Air Pollution Index (API) recorded on the Environment Department's website at noon showed 46 stations with good air quality and 22 with moderate levels around Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

The department has activated its investigation and air quality monitoring team to the nearest receptor.

DOE director-general Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar said the department is monitoring the affected residential area at Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru

He added that CEREX gas detection equipment has been installed to check the current air quality status.

"To date, the air quality monitoring station is at a moderate level and has not detected any abnormal readings since the gas explosion incident," said Wan Abdul Latiff in a statement on Wednesday (April 2).

He said seven nearby air quality-monitoring stations have not recorded any abnormal readings following the incident.

"The reading at noon on Wednesday (April 2) did not show any toxic gas, with enforcement action enhanced using drones.

Wan Abdul Latiff reminded the public not to conduct any open burning or allow their premises to be used by irresponsible people for such activities.

"The people should put out small fires and report any open burning to the DOE at 999 or toll-free line at 1-800-88-2727," he added.
