Sarawak Christian community extends Hari Raya greetings

KUCHING: The Sarawak Christian community has extended Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings to Muslims, wishing them a celebration filled with love, peace, and joy with family and friends.

Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) chairman Datuk Danald Jute encouraged everyone to join the celebration by visiting friends and neighbours to offer good wishes and share in their joy.

On a personal note, he expressed gratitude for the privilege of joining several breaking of fast meals with Muslim friends and those from other faiths.

"Notably, these included one with our Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Fauziah Sanusi, the well-attended public sungkei at Padang Merdeka, as well as another hosted by the federal Ministry of National Unity.

"These have been great occasions for celebrating our diverse communities and our shared common good," he said in a statement on Monday (March 31).

At the same time, Danald expressed regret over the recent increase in incidents of religious hatred, insults, and provocative actions by certain groups to instigate hatred towards others.

He urged stern action against instigators to prevent the spread of mistrust and division.

"On the contrary, when we show respect and acceptance, even as we acknowledge our differences, we will be able to build a stronger, more harmonious, and united society and share in the prosperity of our nation, becoming a more caring society, especially for the less fortunate," he said.
