Double road tragedies in Seri Alam involving motorcycles

JOHOR BARU: Police have urged motorists to stay alert on the roads following two separate fatal road accidents involving motorcycles in Seri Alam.

In the first incident, Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police received a report of an accident involving a motorcycle and a car at KM25.9 of the Senai-Desaru Expressway.

“The accident is believed to have occurred on Wednesday (March 26) at 5.45pm.

“The car driver, a 31-year-old woman, was heading from Bandar Penawar towards Taman Iskandar, Johor Baru.

“Due to heavy traffic congestion and drizzling rain at the time, the driver suddenly heard a loud crash from the rear of her vehicle,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Upon exiting her car, she discovered that a 19-year-old male motorcyclist had collided with the back of her vehicle and was lying unconscious on the road.

“It is believed that the motorcyclist lost control before crashing into the car. Unfortunately, he sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” said ACP Mohd Sohaimi.

In an unrelated case, police received another report of an accident at KM25 of the Pasir Gudang Highway involving a motorcycle and a lorry.

“The accident occurred on Tuesday at 6pm. The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old man, was travelling from Johor Jaya towards Kampung Pasir Putih when he lost control of his vehicle, skidded, and was thrown onto the right lane of the road,” he said.

At that moment, a lorry driven by a 35-year-old man was in the right lane and failed to notice the fallen motorcyclist in time. Tragically, the motorcyclist was run over by the lorry.

“He suffered critical abdominal injuries and was rushed to Sultan Ismail Hospital for medical treatment.

“However, on March 26 at 5am, he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment,” he added.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi urged motorists to reduce their speed, especially in poor weather conditions, and to remain vigilant while on the road.

Both cases are currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Any witnesses with information on these incidents are encouraged to contact the police at 07-3864222 to assist in the investigations.
