PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) operations were not affected by the cyber attack on Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) last weekend.
In a joint statement, the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) and MAHB said the attack on Saturday that hit certain computer systems at KLIA had prompted an immediate and comprehensive investigation on the matter.
Nacsa chief executive Dr Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin said the authorities have been following the developments closely since receiving MAHB’s report on Sunday.
“We understand that the operations at KLIA are not impacted, and will continue to monitor the situation and support Malaysia Airports,” he said in the statement.
MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani assured all stakeholders that maintaining airport operations continues to be their focus.
Mohd Izani ensured that the safety, security and integrity of airport systems remains the highest priority at this time.
“We are working with our airport partners to ensure that flight operations and passenger processing continue to operate normally.
“Ensuring the safety, security and integrity of airport systems reamins the highest priority at this time.
“Technical and operational teams are actively monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to safeguard the infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted passenger experience,” he added.
Earlier yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said MAHB recently faced a cyber attack from hackers who had demanded US$10mil (RM44.3mil) in ransom.
He revealed that the government had decided not to give in to the criminals but was instead planning to allocate more funds to strengthen Malaysia’s cybersecurity systems.
