Warisan must not be lulled into false sense of security, says Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan must not be lulled into a false sense of security by public plaudits, says its president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who is urging stronger grassroots outreach ahead of the Sabah polls.

He reminded party members that crowd reception should not be mistaken for electoral confidence, stressing the need to stay focused on building genuine connections with the rakyat, especially young voters.

"We cannot afford to be complacent. Support at events is encouraging but it's not a guarantee of votes," he said after attending a breaking fast event in Karamunting, Sandakan, on Monday (March 25).

Shafie said Warisan's focus must remain on championing the people's rights and securing a better future for Sabahans, especially the younger generation.

He also said that multi-cornered fights are nothing new in Sabah's political landscape and should not be a distraction.

"Even in the last state election, we faced many challengers. Five-cornered, ten-cornered fights are normal in politics – what matters is showing the people we are still the best option to protect Sabah and its people," he said.

During the event, Shafie distributed duit raya and rice aid to around 200 families from Batu Sapi.
