KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is expected to file for an inquest over the Durian Tunggal shooting within the next day or so.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar, at a press conference at Bukit Aman here, said that investigations into the incident have concluded.
“We have completed our investigation. The decision has been made for the inquest.
“The inquest process will take time and it will be a thorough process,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman here on Monday (Aug 10).
Comm Kumar said the inquest would be held in Melaka once a date had been fixed.
He said all relevant people would be called to testify during the proceedings.
“The policemen involved are also on non-active duties and will be called as part of the inquest,” he said.
Three men, aged between 24 and 29, were killed during a police operation at a palm oil plantation in Durian Tunggal on Nov 24, 2025.
At the time, police said one of the suspects attacked a police corporal with a machete, prompting officers to open fire in self-defence.
Police also alleged the suspects were members of the "Durian Tunggal Gang" and were believed to be on their way to commit a robbery.
However, the victims' families disputed the police's account and questioned the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
On Dec 16, 2025, the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) directed police to reclassify the investigation as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, stating that further investigative steps were required before a final decision could be made.
