More flood victims return home in Beaufort

KOTA KINABALU: Two temporary relief centres in Beaufort have officially closed, allowing 450 people from 129 families to pack their belongings and return home following improved weather conditions.

As of 4pm on Monday (March 24), the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said 138 displaced residents from 41 families remain at Dewan Selagon, the last active relief centre in Sabah.

This marks a significant drop from 588 people from 170 families who had earlier sought temporary shelter at Dewan DSP Dun Banir and Dewan Gereja St Seno Batu 58.

Both centres were ordered to close at 12pm on Monday.

This is the third wave of flooding in Sabah this year, following incidents in mid-January, February and early March.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.

The people are reminded to remain vigilant, evacuate if water levels rise and contact emergency services if assistance is needed.
