Authorities seize frozen chicken valued at RM700,000 at Beluran checkpoint


KOTA KINABALU: Authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle over half a million Ringgit worth of frozen chicken into Beluran in an operation by the 20th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) on Saturday (March 22).

Sabah GOF brigade commander Datuk Abdul Rani Alias said the contraband was discovered in a refrigerated lorry during a routine check at the Sapi Nangoh checkpoint around 9pm.

"Upon inspection, we found the lorry transporting 1,360 boxes of frozen chicken without valid documents. The seized contraband is valued at RM740,500," he said on Saturday.

Three men were arrested during the operation, codenamed Op Taring Chiller. The case is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Sabah Animal Enactment 2015.

Abdul Rani reaffirmed the GOF's commitment to combating smuggling activities that pose risks to national security and the economy.
