Sabah Umno hits out at GRS over supposed 'governance issues'

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno has criticised Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for failing to uphold good governance, citing a RM1.41bil lawsuit against Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as an example.

Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir claimed that Sabahans are now witnessing the consequences of Umno's exit from the GRS-led state administration.

On March 12, Hajiji was named in a civil suit filed by Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd and its receiver and manager, accusing him of abusing his power in revoking a timber concession.

The state government has denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the RM1.41bil suit as baseless and pledging to defend the case in court.

Suhaimi's remarks were in response to GRS assistant information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, who recently criticised Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin's performance during his two-year tenure as state works minister under the former GRS-Barisan Nasional government.

Defending Bung's track record, Suhaimi said numerous infrastructure projects were successfully completed without controversy or scandal during his tenure.

"There were no major corruption scandals or allegations of abuse of power when Umno and Barisan were part of the government.

"People deserve a government that is clean, operates with integrity, and truly fights for their interests – not one engulfed in controversy and allegations of power abuse," he said.
