KUANTAN: Pahang hit the highest number of hotel guests among local tourists, with 11.6 million people recorded last year.
State unity, tourism and culture committee chairman Leong Yu Man said five districts showing a positive number of tourist arrivals are Bentong, Kuantan, Cameron Highlands, Temerloh and Rompin.
Tourist destinations such as Genting Highlands, Cameron Highlands, Kuantan, Cherating and Pulau Tioman continue to attract tourists, with the number of arrivals showing a consistent increase yearly, he said in a statement yesterday.
According to Tourism Malaysia data, he said, Kuala Lumpur ranked second with 9.8 million people, followed by Johor (7.4 million), Selangor (6.1 million) and Penang, which recorded a total of 5.2 million local hotel guests, Bernama reported.
Leong said Pahang has also recorded the highest average length of stay rate in Malaysia with a rate of 75.6% for the period from January to December 2024.
He said this showed a rise of 1.5 percentage points compared to 2023, which was at 74.1%.
“The average room rate is assessed based on more than 36,000 registered accommodation rooms in Pahang, sourced from the Tourism Malaysia strategic planning division,” said Leong.
