Flood victim numbers in Johor spike to over 10,000


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has seen a drastic spike, with over 10,000 people evacuated as of Friday (March 21) morning.

According to the Johor Disaster Management Committee, about 10,763 people had been evacuated from their homes as of 8am on Friday, more than double the number recorded just ten hours earlier, which stood at 5,092.

"The victims from 3,018 families have been sent to temporary flood relief centres in Johor Baru, Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Pontian, and Kulai.

"A total of 98 temporary flood relief centres have opened in the five affected districts as of 8am on Friday, an increase from 79 as of 10pm Thursday," it said in a statement.

It added that Johor Baru remains the district with the highest number of flood evacuees, with 4,291 people.

"This is followed by Kluang with 2,163, Kota Tinggi with 1,762, Pontian with 1,395, and Kulai with 1,152," it said.
