Man killed in fatal collision involving lorry, pickup truck in Kota Tinggi

KOTA TINGGI: A man was killed in a fatal collision involving a lorry and a pickup truck vehicle at KM60 of the Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing, here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said police received a report about the accident at 12.45pm on Thursday (March 20) from the public.

“The incident involved a lorry, driven by a 44-year-old local man, and a pickup, driven by a 26-year-old local man.

“Initial investigations revealed that the pickup lost control, spun out of direction, and veered into the opposite lane before colliding with the lorry,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that, as a result, the pickup driver sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver, however, was unhurt. The victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Supt Yusof also advised motorists to be extra cautious, especially during the rainy season, as slippery roads could increase the risk of accidents.

“We also urged road users to remain alert and adhere to traffic laws for everyone’s safety,” he added.
