KOTA KINABALU: Goodwill hampers are an important way of expressing appreciation for security and healthcare personnel on the front lines of protecting the people's wellbeing, says Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said these personnel have always been at the forefront of rescues, emergencies and critical situations, putting their own lives and health at risk.
“Therefore, we are truly thankful for their sacrifices for the public in general,” he said when presenting Hari Raya cookies and goodies to security and health personnel at Menara Kinabalu here on Tuesday (March 18).
Hajiji said Sabah had been badly affected by natural disasters, including floods and fires, since last year.
Flood-hit districts include Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Telupid, Pitas, Beluran, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Beaufort, Tongod, Paitan and Penampang.
“There is also a Meteorological Department warning of continuous thunderstorms from now until March 21, expected in Sabah Sarawak and the south of Peninsular Malaysia.
“During every disaster, these front liners, especially the uniformed groups, arrive at the scene first for rescue and emergency operations,” he said, which is why the authorities need to express their appreciation through programmes such as this.
He hopes the gesture would prompt others to follow suit in showing their appreciation, while motivating the front liners to continue carrying out their duties with dedication.
At Tuesday's event, a total of 33 ministries, departments and government-linked companies presented goodwill baskets to personnel from 15 security detachments and Health offices statewide.
