MACC has spent over 20 hours taking Ismail Sabri's statement, another session on March 20

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has spent more than 20 hours recording the statement of former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, which entered its fourth day on Wednesday, in connection with a corruption and money laundering case.

On March 13, the Bera MP appeared for the first time to have his statement recorded, which took five hours.

His testimony continued the next day and took approximately six hours, divided into morning and afternoon sessions.

Ismail Sabri appeared again on March 17 for a six-hour statement recording process.

He then arrived at the MACC headquarters at 9.57am on Wednesday (March 19), accompanied by a police vehicle before leaving at 4.35pm after recording his statement for about six hours.

According to MACC sources, Ismail Sabri's statement will continue on Thursday (March 20).

"His testimony will continue at around 10am tomorrow," Sinar Harian reported him as saying.

On March 3, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said Ismail Sabri was a suspect in a corruption and money laundering investigation after approximately RM170mil in cash was found in a safe house.

MACC also seized 13 accounts with funds totalling over RM2mil, all linked to expenses and the acquisition of funds for promotional purposes and publicity programs when Ismail Sabri was the ninth prime minister.

It is understood that the MACC has recorded the statements of 36 witnesses in its investigation.
