Company manager loses over RM766,000 in gold investment scam

KUANTAN: A company manager has lost RM766,788.75 to a fraudulent gold investment scheme he discovered on Facebook in February.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 34-year-old man was initially approached by a woman on Facebook using the name 'Celeste Yee', who lured him into investing through the website https://tksone-official.com.

Tempted by promises of quick returns, the victim made an initial investment of RM5,000 and received a profit of RM5,700, which encouraged him to invest more.

"Between Feb 12 and March 16, he made 37 transactions to five different bank accounts, but was unable to withdraw his capital or the promised returns," Yahaya said in a statement on Wednesday (March 19).

Realising he had been scammed, the victim lodged a police report. His losses included personal savings, a loan from his mother, and a bank loan.

Yahaya urged the public to be cautious of investment schemes offering unusually high returns and to verify the legitimacy of any investment company with the authorities before committing funds. - Bernama
