Travel fair to encourage travel packages from licensed agencies

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA) Johor chapter is organising a travel fair in hopes to encourage the public to purchase travel packages from licensed travel agencies.

The Malaysia International Travel Fair (MITM Travel Fair 2025) is expected to attract 30,000 visitors during the three-day fair, which will feature over 125 booths.

MCTA Johor chairman Edwin Tay Kian Chuan in a statement on Monday (March 17) said: “The MITM Travel Fair 2025 is set to generate an estimated total sales revenue of RM18mil and RM20mil.”

Tay added to encourage the public to purchase travel packages from licensed travel agencies, MCTA Johor Chapter has introduced a special annual lucky draw this year.

He said the grand prize was a Perodua Axia car, and customers would receive one lucky draw entry for every RM500 spent.

“This lucky draw will also extend to the second MITM Travel Fair, which will take place from July 18 to July 20, 2025. The final winner will be selected from participants across both fairs,” he added.

He also said that the event was co-organised by several tourism authorities, including Tourism Malaysia, Tourism Johor, Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia Ministry, Taiwan Tourism Administration, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Tokushima Tourism Association from Japan.

MCTA president Patrick Law urged the public to visit the travel fair to learn about and purchase travel packages directly.

“Face-to-face interaction helps prevent scams and allows customers to better understand the details of travel packages before making a purchase,” he said, adding that the association would allocate RM 2,000 to its Johor chapter to support the event's expenses.

Meanwhile, state unity, culture and heritage committee chairman K Raven Kumar, who represented Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, said the participation of over 125 booths from 18 leading travel agencies, shows that MITM Travel Fair 2025 was more than just an exhibition.

“It is a testament to the resilience and revival of the tourism sector in overcoming global challenges.

“As Visit Johor 2026 and Visit Malaysia 2026 approach, the state is poised to strengthen its position as a premier tourism destination,” he added.

Raven Kumar also said the state government remains committed to enhancing infrastructure, promoting cultural and natural attractions, and advancing digital tourism to attract more domestic and international visitors.
