Cops nab three in Teluk Intan anti-drug raids

IPOH: Three men have been arrested by the police during an operation targeting drug abuse activities around Teluk Intan.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said the suspects, aged between 39 and 64 years old, were detained on Monday (May 25) following intelligence gathering and public tip-offs.

“During the same operation, police also seized various types of drugs, namely 0.78g of heroin and 0.50g of methamphetamine,” he said in a statement Tuesday (May 26).

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Section 12(2) pertains to the unlawful possession of dangerous drugs, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years or both upon conviction.

Section 15(1)(a) relates to self-administration of dangerous drugs. Offenders may face a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years and supervision for a period of between two and three years if convicted.

ACP Chua advised the public not to get involved in drug trafficking or drug abuse activities, as drug-related crimes not only destroy individuals but also negatively affect families, society and national security.

"Public cooperation is crucial in helping police combat drug abuse and trafficking activities.

“Anyone with information related to drug or narcotics crimes can channel information to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) through WhatsApp at 012-208 7222 or contact the Hilir Perak district police headquarters at 05-629 9222,” he added.
