DAP reconsidering stance on members accepting titles, says Loke

SHAH ALAM: Recognising the need for change, DAP will review its stance on members accepting honorific titles, says Anthony Loke.

The DAP secretary-general said that this is because the current policy for elected representatives to decline state and federal awards might be too rigid.

He added that members offered such awards must submit them to the party's central executive committee for consideration.

Loke cited the case of a Selangor executive councillor and Sekinchan assemblyman who received a Datukship from Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

He said that under party norms, Ng Suee Lim would have to decline it, but he was allowed to accept it given the circumstances.
