Motorcyclist killed in multi-vehicle accident in Muar

MUAR: A 41-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a tragic accident involving a lorry and multiple vehicles along Jalan Bukit Pasir on Thursday evening (March 14).

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police received a report from a member of the public at around 7.10pm regarding the fatal accident.

"Preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred when the victim, a local man, was riding his motorcycle from Muar town towards his home in Jorak, Bukit Pasir.

"As he reached the scene, his motorcycle is believed to have grazed against a lorry travelling in the same direction before he was run over by the vehicle’s tyres.

"At the same time, the victim was also hit by several other vehicles passing through the area. Due to the heavy rain, none of the drivers stopped or realised that an accident had taken place," he said in a statement on Saturday (March 15).

The victim suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was sent to the forensic unit of Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar for a post-mortem examination.

He added that efforts are underway to trace the lorry driver to assist in the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are urging anyone with information or who witnessed the accident to come forward and report to the Muar District Traffic Police Station or the nearest police station.

Police have also advised the public to always practise safe and courteous driving, particularly during rainy weather. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution to ensure their safety and that of other road users.
