MUAR: A man died on the spot after the car he was travelling in, involved in an accident at KM138.9 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Aziz said the 43-year-old victim, a local, was the front passenger of the car driven by a 30-year-old Malaysian man.
He said the car carrying two men broke down and stopped in the emergency lane of the NSE on Thursday (Oct 8) at 12.15am.
“The car was stationary in the emergency lane without its hazard or position lights turned on," ACP Raiz Mukhliz said in a statement.
He said shortly after, a trailer approaching from behind crashed into the rear of the car.
As a result of the collision, the car was dragged before being completely engulfed in flames.
“The driver and the victim managed to pull themselves from the burning car," said ACP Raiz Mukhliz.
He said the victim however, suffered chest injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer, while the driver sustained minor injuries.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the victim’s body was sent to the Muar Hospital Forensic Department for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
“The results of the post-mortem found that the cause of death was multiple injuries consistent with a road traffic collision,” he said.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz, the trailer driver, a 33-year-old local man escaped unhurt, urine and alcohol tests conducted on him came back negative.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
