Female Civil Defence members capture four-metre king cobra


BALING: A four-metre-long king cobra has been caught from a home in Jalan Kampung Paya in Pekan Pulai here on Thursday (March 13).

The 10kg reptile was tackled in 25 minutes by three female members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).

Baling District Civil Defence officer Lt Mohd Faizol Abd Aziz said his team received a call reporting the snake being seen behind the house just as the family was about to break fast at 6.40pm.

"The snake was first seen at the fence before it slithered towards a storage rack at the house, where it hid there," he said in a statement on Friday.

Mohd Faizol said the operations team then managed to extract the aggressive reptile from the tight space.

He then commended the team for completing the capture without any untoward incident, despite being armed with limited equipment due to a recent fire at the Baling Civil Defence office.

The captured king cobra was later released into a safe area, away from human settlements.

The King Cobra is known as the world's longest venomous snake and commonly found in this region.

It is known for its potent venom and large venom yield of up to 7ml per bite, enough to kill 20 people or an elephant.
