Ops Sapu: Kelantan Immigration detains 25 illegal immigrants


KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Immigration Department detained 25 illegal immigrants during a special operation codenamed 'Ops Sapu' conducted on March 11 and 12.

Its director, Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan, said that based on intelligence, the operation team had conducted checks on foreigners at Kampung Berhala Lima Limbat, Kampung Belukar Guntong and Kampung Guntong Limbat.

"As a result of the screening, a total of eight men, 12 women and five Cambodian boys were arrested," he said.

Mohamed Yusoff Khan said those arrested were aged between 30 and 60 years old, while the children were aged between one and six years old.

"All migrants are currently being housed at the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation as they are suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he added in a statement on Wednesday (March 12).

Mohamed Yusoff Khan also urged the public to come forward and channel information related to immigrants or any illegal activities of foreigners.

"Kelantan Immigration will take firm action without compromise against any party who masterminds, facilitates or abets in protecting migrants," he said. – Bernama
