Government to extend repatriation programme with Indonesia, says Saifuddin

PORT KLANG: The government is considering extending the repatriation programme with Indonesia until next year, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the programme allows undocumented foreigners to surrender, pay a compound, and return home safely.

"The initiative has resulted in RM120mil in compounds collected," he told reporters after launching Ops Pagar Laut on Wednesday (March 12).

Regarding the issue of encroachment by Vietnamese fishermen, Saifuddin Nasution said both the Prime Minister and Vietnam's President have agreed to a joint exploration of seafood products.

"This initiative is aimed at reducing the number of trespassing incidents by Vietnamese fishermen.

"The cooperation will follow the model set by the European Union and Morocco," he said.
