Contractor arrested for false RM60,000 claim in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A company owner was arrested for allegedly submitting a false RM60,000 claim for the repair of four houses under the People's Housing Scheme (PPRT) four years ago.

The contractor, in his 40s, was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tawau branch after he arrived to give his statement at 10am on Tuesday (March 11).

Sources revealed that the construction company owner was suspected of submitting a claim to a state government agency containing false details amounting to around RM60,000 in 2021.

The sources stated that the contractor's claims did not adhere to the actual specifications for repair work on four PPRT houses in a district in Sabah.

The estimated cost for repairing the houses was RM15,000 per house, according to the sources.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (ASPRM) Act 2009.

However, he added that the suspect was released on bail of RM2,000 with one surety after his statement was recorded.
