Those who incite religious or racial hatred must face legal consequences, says Gobind

PETALING JAYA: Gobind Singh Deo has repeated his call for firm action against those who incite religious or racial hatred.

The Digital Minister said despite previous warnings from various authorities, such incitement was being repeated, further compounding matters.

"This matter was raised in Cabinet on Friday (March 7), and a decision was made that firm action must be taken in cases of this nature," he said, adding that Communications Minister

Datuk Fahmi Fadzil issued a statement the same day, underscoring the urgency of the matter.

"The police and the Attorney General need to act fast.

"We cannot – and must not – allow statements which are insulting to religion to remain without proper action," he said.

Gobind added that there are existing legal provisions to deal with situations like these.

"These provisions mean nothing if they are not enforced.

"Action must be taken to send a strong message that we will not condone insults to any religion and that there are consequences for doing so," he said.
