Maldives and Malaysia have 'similar priorities' in global arena, says Maldives foreign minister

NEW DELHI: The Maldives and Malaysia have similar priorities in the global arena, including a strong support for Palestine, says Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel.

Abdulla and Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan met in Jeddah on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers on Saturday (March 8).

"Maldives and Malaysia share similar priorities in the international arena, including being strong advocates on behalf of the Palestinian people," Abdulla said.

The Maldives has welcomed the Gaza reconstruction plan adopted at the recent Arab League summit in Cairo.

It safeguards Palestinian rights, prevents displacement, and will rebuild what has been destroyed by Israel in Gaza, Abdulla said at the OIC session.

He demanded unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians and a permanent ceasefire. - Bernama
