Penang doc nabbed again as second victim of alleged sexual misconduct comes forward

GEORGE TOWN: A 43-year-old doctor here, currently out on police bail, has been arrested for alleged sexual misconduct against a patient at a private clinic in Pulau Tikus.

George Town deputy OCPD Supt Lee Swee Sake said the suspect was detained after a police report was lodged by a 30-year-old complainant alleging inappropriate conduct towards her at the clinic.

"Initial investigation found that the incident happened at about 6.30pm on June 28, 2023 when the victim went to the clinic to obtain the results of her blood test.

"The victim met with the suspect, who was on duty in the treatment room, where she was allegedly deceived into removing her blouse and running in place, on the pretext of a medical examination," he said in a statement on Friday (March 7).

Supt Lee said the suspect is also suspected of having taken photos of the complainant with a mobile phone at the time.

He said the victim lodged a police report on Tuesday (March 4) night at George Town police headquarters, leading to the arrest of the suspect at 9.15pm on Thursday (March 6).

He added that the suspect has been remanded for four days until Monday (March 10) for further investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting modesty and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955," he said.

It is learned that the suspect is the same one apprehended by police for allegedly outraging the modesty of a female patient at a public hospital here.

In the earlier case, the suspect was arrested on Feb 26 after the alleged victim filed a police report.

The doctor had allegedly convinced the 21-year-old patient to undress under the pretence of performing a heart check-up without a nurse present.

He reportedly recorded her with his mobile phone before hospital management staff barged into the room and found video recordings of the complainant on his phone.

The suspect was released on police bail on Sunday (March 2).
