PETALING JAYA: Some 800 lucky students of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) are set to benefit from RM60,000 worth of subscriptions to The Star ePaper.
UOA Development Bhd’s (UOA) sponsorship has made it possible for qualified undergraduates to receive the subscriptions.
UOA general manager (projects) Stephanie Kong presented a mock cheque to Star Media Group Bhd’s (SMG) group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt and chief operating officer Lydia Wang at Menara Star here, under SMG’s University Sponsorship Programme 2025, yesterday.
Wang praised UOA’s commitment as a sponsor in the initiative even through difficult times.
“Through thick and thin, even through the movement control orders, UOA has continued to show support,” she said.
Chan emphasised that the global shift towards digital media positions the Star ePaper as a vital way to keep youth engaged in the news.
“The hope is that this (programme) will increase readership among the younger generation,” he added.
Kong spoke highly of the programme, saying it’s an essential tool in connecting students with the tools they need to succeed.
“At UOA, we believe that access to information is a key driver of education, and we are thrilled to support this meaningful initiative that will enhance both knowledge and language skills for the students,” she added.
“We hope that through this programme, we can help them become more engaged global citizens with stronger English language abilities.”
The initiative aims to empower students by providing them with up-to-date news and educational resources, fostering a greater understanding of global events, improving English language proficiency, and encouraging a habit of reading. It is intended to have a positive impact on students’ academic growth and career preparedness.
The sponsored Star ePapers will be distributed to 800 students from the two universities selected from the B40 income bracket, students on education loan schemes as well as self-supporting, part-time students.
