KUALA LUMPUR: An estimated RM12.7bil in unclaimed money (WTD) belongs to the public as of Jan 31, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar - who is also the Finance Minister - said eligible individuals or their heirs can claim the WTD by submitting their application online via https://egumis.anm.gov.my/ or visiting the counters at the Accountant General’s Department (JANM) in each state.
"The methods for verification and claiming can be referred to on the eGUMIS JANM portal or at the JANM counters," he said in a Parliamentary written reply on Wednesday (March 5).
Anwar was responding to a question from S. Kesavan (PH-Sungai Siput) regarding the current amount of WTD and the process for claiming the money.
Anwar added that the government had taken various steps to inform WTD owners and their heirs about the unclaimed money, including awareness campaigns at government and private sector events such as the Madani Rakyat programme, open days, and customer service days organised by respective government departments.

"These efforts aim to allow the public to check if they have unclaimed funds.
"As of 2024, a total of 158 booths and awareness programmes have been held throughout Malaysia to inform the public about the existence of WTD and how to claim it," he added.
Anwar said online briefings were regularly held for government and private sector agencies to explain the procedures for checking and applying for WTD claims.
To expand such services, JANM opened WTD application counters in 24 JANM state and branch offices nationwide, including one in Putrajaya and UTC Pudu, enabling the public to check and submit claims, said the Prime Minister.
"As part of the efforts to broaden the dissemination of information to the public, JANM has also shared various information through crawlers and national TV channels," he said.
