Woman's body found burned, son arrested

ALOR SETAR: A 43-year-old man has been arrested after his mother was found dead in a house on Jalan Tok Keling here.

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Siti Nor Salawati Saad said police went to the scene on Sunday (March 2) upon being notified at 7.48am that the suspect, who holds a person with disabilities (OKU) card, had run amok.

She said the incident was believed to have started with an argument between the 68-year-old woman and her son.

"The woman’s grandson, aged 14, was also in the house.

"According to the boy, the incident happened between 7am and 7.30am. He heard his father and grandmother arguing and then heard the woman screaming for help.

"The boy then ran out of the house to ask for help from neighbours.

"Some of them tried to see what was happening but were threatened by the suspect, so they called us," she said in a statement on Monday (March 3).

ACP Siti Nor Salawati said police went to the scene and arrested the man in front of the house.

A check of the premises found the victim's body in a burned state.

The woman's remains have been taken to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah here for an autopsy and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, ACP Siti Nor Salawati added. – Bernama
