Ten-year-old Tuaran boy injured in explosion caused by leaking gas hose

KOTA KINABALU: A 10-year-old boy has sustained burns on his face and body due to a gas explosion in his house.

The boy was alone in his house in Kampung Berungis, Tuaran during the 2pm incident on Sunday (March 2).

Tuaran fire station chief Mohammad Nor Amit said they received an emergency call at 2.22pm and went to the scene.

"Upon reaching, we found out that the boy had already been taken to the hospital," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said they suspect a leak in the gas cylinder pipe and sparks from a nearby refrigerator could have triggered the explosion.

He added that investigations on the cause of the incident were underway.

Mohammad said firemen checked the gas cylinder, electrical appliances and some wiring to eliminate any other hazardous elements before wrapping up their operation at around 2.40pm.
