PAPAR: The second World War II-era bomb that was found in Kinarut on Feb 28 has been successfully detonated, say police.
Papar police chief Supt Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka, said that the unexploded bomb, believed to still be live, was detonated in three staged explosions between 11.55am and 1.25pm on Sunday (March 2).
"No untoward incident occurred during the operation. Before the bomb was destroyed, police informed various involved agencies, including the Environment Department.
"After the detonation, Kinarut police collected information from the surrounding area to find out if anyone was affected by the explosions," he said in a statement on Sunday.
He added that the operation adhered to standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the Disaster Management Committee under the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
On Feb 25, a 120cm-long, 250kg bomb was discovered by workers cleaning the construction site at 1.30pm. It was safely detonated the next day. – Bernama
