Journalist held over bribery allegations

PETALING JAYA: A local news portal journalist has been remanded for four days following an arrest by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on bribery allegations.

The remand order was issued by the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Sources claim that the journalist may have asked for a bribe in return for removing a previously published article.

The suspect is accused of requesting a bribe to refrain from writing a report concerning a foreign worker recruitment agency’s alleged connection to a crime ring.

“The suspect was caught in a sting operation at a hotel in Shah Alam at around 11.45pm on Friday night while receiving the bribe,” said a source.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest when contacted, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
