Mechanic hit with three more firearms charges

SIK: A mechanic slapped with three more counts of firearms possession has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Mohd Shahifuldin Mohd Shahiran, 46, entered the plea before Sessions judge Rohaida Ishak here on Monday (May 25).

On the first count, he was charged with possessing a US-made Remington Model 1100 shotgun without a permit at a house in Kampung Luar Siong at about 6pm on May 6.

The charge was framed under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years’ jail and no fewer than six strokes of the cane upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 8(a) of the same law with possessing 156 rounds of ammunition without a valid permit at the same location, date and time.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both, if convicted.

On the third count, Shahifuldin was charged with possessing an imitation Glock 19 Gen 4 pistol and one cartridge without lawful reason at the same place, time and date.

The charge, under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960, provides for a maximum sentence of one year’s jail, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.

The court denied bail and fixed July 12 for mention.

On May 13, Shahifuldin was charged in both the Sessions Court and Magistrate’s Court in Baling with five offences related to the possession of firearms, to which he also pleaded not guilty. – Bernama
