Honey producer loses RM30k to sun bears

A HONEY producer in Gua Musang, Kelantan, is dealing with the loss of almost RM30,000 over a two-year period after the beehives he cultivated were destroyed by sun bears.

According to Harian Metro, Mohamad Sabri Hanipa, 35, was generating side income from selling honey, but said that bear attacks, which started in 2020, have become more frequent in the last two years.

He said that out of the 70 hives he tended to, only 15 remain.

“The attacks have cost such huge losses over the last two years. I can’t sell the honey anymore because there’s only enough left from the 15 hives for my own consumption,” said Mohamad Sabri.

“Of course, there’s a sense of disappointment and despair when something you’ve cultivated is destroyed by wild animals,” he added.

He shared that Perhilitan came to provide advice to him and his family on the matter.

Another honey producer Azhar Che Amir described an incident on Monday where a sun bear damaged two beehives.

Azhar, 56, was not home when it happened but was informed of the incident by his neighbour.

> Rapper and composer Malique is garnering attention online after launching an official Instagram account under the username@maliqueibrahimqarma.

Friends and fans of the artiste rushed to follow him, gaining more than 35,000 followers in just two days, Kosmo! reported.

Malique, also known as Mr. General, is remaining true to his principle of not sharing any photos that show his face on the account.

The only things he shared are of interesting places and other celebrities who visited his studio, Qarma Studios.

The emergence of the account is building excitement among fans that Malique will continue to produce and release more work.

“The US has Eminem, but in Malaysia, we have Mr General. Welcome back, Malique!” said one social media user.

After the dissolution of Too Phat in 2007, Malique went solo and never pursued a social media presence.

In that time, he continued to produce songs and work behind the scenes.

Previously, Malique’s single, Sedih Hati, which also features the voice of the late Mona Fandey, attracted a lot of attention for featuring his eldest child, Inca Medina, 14, in the song’s music video.
