JOHOR BARU: Various items worth RM41.41mil have been seized in a raid jointly conducted by the Southern Region 2 Marine Police and the Johor Environment Department (DOE).
Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar the raid code name Ops Taring Landai took place on Wednesday (Feb 25).
He said in the raid, a local man, a male Chinese national, nine Indonesian men, two Myanmar nationals, a Bangladeshi man and an Indonesian woman were detained.
Comm Kumar said the suspects, aged from 20 to 49, were caught at a factory in Kampung Baru Sengkang, Kulai.
"They were detained following information from the public on illegal storing and processing of scheduled e-waste," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 26).
Among the seized items were 669 tonnes of tin worth RM23.13mil, 1,290 tonnes of batteries valued at RM6.45mil, equipment to process/melt e-waste worth RM1mil and 18 tonnes of e-waste worth RM810,000.
"The seized items have been handed over to the DOE for further action," said Comm Kumar.
In a separate raid, a 38-year-old local man was arrested during a raid at a factory in Taman Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang at 3pm on Tuesday (Feb 24).
"The raid was jointly conducted with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Southern Region where various items worth RM1.64mil were seized," he said.
The seized items were six square tanks, two metal tankers, metal drums, a boiler, two lorries, a lorry tanker, an electric pump with hose, a compressor pump, a biodiesel processing machine, seven engine pumps, 11,200 litres of used palm oil and 35 tonnes of palm oil mill effluent.
Comm Kumar said all the seized items were handed over to the MPOB for further investigation. – Bernama
