Suspect in child sexual assault case to be charged on Thursday

PETALING JAYA: The 19-year-old man, who was detained for the alleged sexual assault of a young girl at a mosque in Batang Kali, will be charged on Thursday.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the investigation paper has been completed and referred to the deputy public prosecutor on Tuesday (Feb 25).

"We have received instruction for the suspect to be charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 26).

Comm Hussein said the suspect will be charged at Ampang Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Feb 27).

It was reported that a 19-year-old man has been detained for alleged sexual assault of a child at a mosque in Batang Kali, Selangor.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim had said police received a report pertaining to a viral video around 8.20am on Feb 21.

The clip, captured by a surveillance camera at the mosque, shows the teen lurking behind the sliding door in the female prayer room.

A girl was praying alone behind a row of female adults.

The suspect quickly lifted the victim and took her to another room, where he allegedly assaulted her before fleeing.

Selangor Social Welfare Department director Azmir Kassim has since confirmed the man holds a learning disability card.
