MELAKA: A company director with a "Datuk" title and 16 other individuals have been remanded until March 2 to assist in investigations for allegedly attempting to bribe enforcement officers over the processing and disposal of illegal electrical and electronic waste (e-waste).

The remand order for all the individuals, comprising 13 men and 5 women, was issued by the magistrate's court in Ayer Keroh here on Tuesday (Feb 25).

All of them, aged between 34 and 62, were produced at the court complex in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) lock-up attire.

The suspects were arrested between 7pm and 11pm on Monday (Feb 24) and were brought to the Melaka MACC headquarters to have their statements recorded.

On Monday (Feb 24), MACC, through an integrated operation codenamed Op X, reportedly detained all these individuals for allegedly bribing enforcement officers to process and dispose of prohibited electrical and e-waste.

MACC Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said that the action was taken during a joint operation together with the Environment Department and Immigration Department.

The operation saw raids on 12 premises across Johor and Selangor.
