KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has expressed deep regret over the incident involving a visually impaired person at Titiwangsa Station on Saturday, 22 February 2025.

In a statement on Monday night (Feb 25), the company pledged to provide appropriate assistance to the victim's family during this difficult time.

In its response, Prasarana said it is taking immediate action to enhance safety measures for all rail users, with a particular focus on those with disabilities.

This includes increasing the number of auxiliary police officers at stations lacking automatic platform screen doors (PSDs) and those with a high number of disabled users.

The additional officers will improve monitoring on platforms to efficiently identify and assist users, especially the disabled and elderly.

Operating procedures (SOPs) are being improved to enhance monitoring standards, particularly on platforms.

Prasarana is also in the process of upgrading to smart closed-circuit television (SMART CCTV) systems capable of detecting unusual and risky behaviour.

This initiative aims to provide early warnings to operations staff in case of incidents, particularly on platforms.

The installation of these cameras is expected to be completed by the end of the year, starting with the monorail line and then extending to other lines.

For long-term solutions, Prasarana plans to install automatic platform screen doors (PSDs) on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line and Kelana Jaya Line.

"PSDs are crucial in preventing users from descending onto or falling onto the tracks. Notably, PSD installation on the monorail line was completed at the end of last year," they shared.

A committee has been established to conduct a detailed investigation, and the findings will be presented to the Ministry of Transport and the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad).

In the statement, Prasarana affirmed that it would promptly implement the improvement initiatives recommended by this committee.

It reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safer and more accessible travel environment for people with disabilities: "Prasarana will intensify engagement sessions with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and disability associations to gather feedback and continuously improve procedures."

"We also encourage all users requiring additional assistance, especially those with disabilities, to seek help from station staff before boarding trains.

"All frontline staff have been trained to cater to the needs of disabled users, the elderly, and children, and our station staff are always ready to accompany those in need to ensure they enjoy a safe, comfortable, and smooth journey," it added in its pledge to provide safe and accessible public transportation for all sectors of the community.
